Nakuru Gurudwara - Carved Entrance Door

Carved entrance door in Iroko for Nakuru Gurudwara (Kenya circa 2013). The door took inspiration from Sikh & Swahili Architecture. The Coast of Kenya celebrates Swahili culture, especially it’s furniture designs it has a fusion of Arab, East African & Indian roots. The client wanted to embrace the Swahili style of heavily carved entrance doors in the setting of a Gurudwara (Sikh place of worship). Carvings on Swahili doors tend to take inspiration from its locality especially in natural surrounding, just as Sikh Architecture does.
